How long is the curriculum? How much time does each lesson take?
The Mindful Schools curriculum is composed of 20 lessons in the K-5 curriculum and 24 lessons in the 6-12 curriculum. The curriculum is often delivered over five to eight weeks, two to three times per week for 15-20 minute lessons. Our curriculum also contains additional lessons and suggestions for on-going practice such that it may be used for the entire school year.
The Mindful Schools curriculum:
- can be implemented by classroom teachers or by an outside trainer or provider.
- can be given during the regular school day in a classroom setting, or integrated into after school programs, sports, and other work with youth.
- can be delivered in 15-20 minute lessons.
- includes shorter practices ranging from 30 seconds to five minutes, which can be interspersed throughout the day.
Participants of our 201: Mindfulness in the Classroom course receive a wide range of resources during and after the course to support the implementation of the curriculum.
Can I share the Mindful Schools Curriculum with my colleagues?
The effectiveness of our curriculum is dependent on the presenter’s understanding and training in mindfulness. For this reason, we require anyone teaching the Mindful Schools’ curriculum to complete our 201: Mindfulness in the Classroom course, which is focused on strengthening one’s personal practice, and on giving one the skills and tools needed to teach the Mindful Schools’ curriculum. Individuals who haven’t completed 201: Mindfulness in the Classroom may not use the curriculum or the related training materials.
